Dear Dorothy,

Loveda Powell, 80 years old died on April 15, 2002 at my home. She spent 5 days here, after fighting to take her out of the nursing home, due to them starving her to her death. She was admitted there on march 21, 2002 and stayed until the day of April 10, 2002.

Before this nursing home, she spent 10 days at the Salem Hospital for a urinary tract infection from March 12, 2002--march 21, 2002. I asked them not to discharge mother, but the social worker told me mother was not qualified to be there any longer. She told me there was no beds and rules are rules! I was forced to take mother "as is" or place her in a nursing home.

Before her UTI, I had her at the ER Hospital for abdominal pain, fatigue, losing weight and diahrrea. They saw her on February 27, 2002 and gave us a referral to Kaiser Permanente Clinic for FIRST AID February 28, 2002. The hospital saw her again on March 4, 2002 and released her and then she had the UTI.

The Kaiser doctor was horrible, humiliating mother that she was there. They gave her pain meds because the hospital visit on February 27, 2002 was not during the hours to give pain meds!

We finally had a new doctor in my area to see mother on March 8, 2002. We relocated mother to Salem,Oregon to get her better care. She lived in Springfield, Oregon. We had to use the Emergency Department for doctor visits.

Mother had been admitted to the Salem Hospital after getting her to Salem. On February 13, 2002 she had pneumonia. She was released after 10 days on February 23, 2002. But, I had her back at the ER on February 27, 2002 for abdominal pain.

We relocated mother on February 11, 2002. The McKenzie Willamette Hospital saw mother on February 8, 2002 for abdominal pain. They would not admit her and sent her home with oral meds. The social worker wanted mother to go to the nursing home there, but mama would not like that. They released mother to go home with her sister. They wanted a home study done the following week, but we had it with the neglect that mother was getting by her primary doctor.

Now, mother died when her aneurysm ruptured. It was an iliac aneurysm.

Not one medical person told us that she had this and if we knew this, we would not have moved mother from her home town.

After two private investigation, one says it is a wrongful death negligence case and the other connected the dots, saying that all the various doctors had all the evidence and should have been alerted of her aneurysm.

But, mother lived past life expectancy and was not supporting any of her 8 kids.

The State of Oregon investigated the nursing home and they are not at fault.

I have made complaints all over with everyone in this town. At this time, OMPRO.COM is doing another investigation. The Physical Therapist Board is investigating the man who used a lift belt and slung our mother up and off the bed to make her perform this amazing 80 feet walk that he claimed she did. She never walked again after the UTI. She never walked at the nursing home in 19 days. She never walked at the hospital during her UTI period. She never walked again after February 27, 2002.

I have the Licensure Board investigating the two hospitals also. The BME will not investigate, even after two complaints of mine. Maybe the Licensure Board can shed some light.

Can you help us? There is not one lawyer since mother died that will take this case in our area. Since the State, as of yet, will not back us up we have no one to help us. We have until April 15, 2005 to file this, but it should be filed one month before the deadline, so I am told.

Bye,

Joanie ****
