Dear Dorothy,

My story started just two years ago. My husband was one of the dearest people you could have ever met.

December of 2002, my husband noticed that he had blood in his urine, he finally went to the doctor about it, the only time he had been in the hospital before was because of kidney stones. So, having that in his file, that's what is was, just a kidney stone.

By Feb.2003 he was having lots of bleeding, and was finally scheduled for a "scope", they found a mass in his bladder, so he was to go to the hospital to have his bladder scrapped, then the biopsy would be sent to the pathologist. That surgery was Feb.14, 2003.

On Friday, Feb.21,2003, we were told that he had cancer in his bladder, not just one type, but all three. The doctor he had was confident that he could have the bladder removed, and reconstruction done, and be cancer free, and better yet, alive. As he went into the doctors for his pre-op, they found a problem with his heart, he had to be hospitalized for a double bypass surgery, he was in LA for 10 days then brought back to Anaheim to recover enough for his cancer surgery, all this time being in such pain, I could hardly stand to see him suffer.

Finally in late April he was able to have his cancer surgery, after a 12 hour surgery the doctor came out and said to me, "well, it didn't go as well as we had hoped, the cancer had spread too far, he has just a couple of weeks" I could hardly believe it, my husband was never sick! He died May 10,2003, in the hospital, He never got to go home. He was just 54 years old.

In December of that year we would have been married for 23 years, we had made so many plans for when we retired. I now have to make different plans. We have two children, Our son is 22 and our daughter is 18. I am 52. I am grateful for my family, I miss my husband so much. I did go to a lawyer, but was told there was not enough "paperwork" to go on. Not enough to prove "neglect".

It was bad, my husband wouldn't complain about anything, he just worked hard, all the time. Also, because he was just 54, his company decided he "retired" early, So he could only get half of his retirement, which means I only get half of that, because he died, I get $244.00 a month. He worked for Disneyland for 33 years! My only relief is knowing he is no longer suffering.

Annonymous
